Flying direct to Malaga from Bristol one can it possible to travel by rail on modern confortable rolling stock from the airport all the way to Granada. Taking the train from the airport to Malaga then a regional train to Bobadilla. This old line passes through a spectacular gorge. However this route has been superseded by AVE (high speed line) to Antequera-Santa Ana then changing to a local train to Granda.
The route may not be a quick as using a hire car but can be used to a pleasant way to travel and relax after flying into Malaga.

Granada is a modest sized city and was in the process of installing a tram system on my visit. The must see tourist site is of course the Alhambra with Muslim era architecture. But it is probably best appreciated in the summer allowing the visitor to best appreciate the fountains and garden pools. There is a Parador within the grounds for a top class stay.

Skiing in the Sierra Nevada is reasonably respectable and is suitable for 5 or so days skiing. The resort town has one manages to combine the feel of a Spanish resort town in the mountains. And interesting mix.
