Barry Island can easily be reached by rail from Bristol. Nip under the Severn to Cardiff and take one of the many direct trains to the premier Welsh resort.

Walk past the derelict funfair. (due to refurbished) and head to the Beach.  There are plenty of decent fish and chip shops and an excellent beach suitable for olympic beach volley ball.

For those wanting to explore the environs one can make their way to Friar’s Point and if the tide is low walk across Barry Harbour to Watch House Bay.

Family photo    Heading to the Marine Lake (popular with local boat enthusiasts) to repair at Romilly’s Coffe Shop.  Returning to Barry Railway Station via a circular route.

For Bristol residents frustrated by the lack of proximity to a decent beach and sea should consider Barry Island.  It is relatively easy to reach by rail and the resort is undergoing somewhat of a renaissance together with prospect of a Dreamland style amusement park makeover it could in danger of becoming a hipster hangout.

People are returning to local resorts in the UK making the most of what the nation has to offer.
